Season word: cooling oneself (涼みsuzumi), summer

Composed by Masaoka Shiki in 1896, at age 29. Born

in Matsuyama, Shiki is credited with making haiku a

respected literary form.

 

*The ‘o‘ of ‘ohori‘ is an honorific.
